Dolphins at Colts: Prediction Time!

Ryan Tannehill gets his second crack at Andrew Luck and the Colts

It’s finally time to reveal my prediction for Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts. I’ve included picks from experts in the media as well, and I encourage each of you post your prediction for the game in the comments section.

Expert predictions

ESPN: 8 of 13 picked Colts

NFL Playbook: 2 of 3 picked Colts

CBS Sports: 5 of 8 picked Colts

Fox Sports: 2 picked Dolphins, 2 picked Colts

Bleacher Report: 6 picked Dolphins, 6 picked Colts

My prediction

The Colts will be without their starting running back, Vick Ballard, who was lost for the season after a freak knee injury in practice, and likely without their starting tight end, Dwayne Allen, which was the one position the Dolphins’ defense struggled with in Week 1.

Indianapolis’ playmakers at receiver pose a potential problem for a Miami secondary that appears improved but is still unproven, and Andrew Luck is borderline elite in only his second season. But the Dolphins own a pass rush that beat up a solid Browns offensive line a week ago, and could become even more lethal against a suspect Colts line, with question marks at both tackle spots.

On the other side of the ball, the Colts’ secondary is no pushover, but without a consistent rush on Tannehill, Miami’s signal caller should have sufficient time to utilize wide receiver Mike Wallace’s speed downfield and to continue exhibiting his rapport with Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson.

When I look at both rosters from top to bottom, I can’t help but feel the Dolphins are the more talented team. Andrew Luck is obviously the equalizer, though, and the Colts have won eight straight games at Lucas Oil Stadium.

It won’t be easy, but I see Kevin Coyle’s defense making life difficult for Luck all game and Tannehill doing just enough to put the Dolphins in the end zone late in the fourth quarter for the win.

THE PICK: Miami 24, Indianapolis 17

Alright, let’s hear your predictions. Post your final score in the comments.
