2012 Week One Preview – Dolphins at Texans

Quarterback Matt Schaub

The “Hard Knocks” team of 2012, the Miami Dolphins, are looking to change their image with new coach Joe Philbin, and Sunday they kickoff 2012 with a matchup vs the AFC South champs from 2011, the Texans.

Miami is a young team with a new starter at QB in rookie Ryan Tannehill. The rook was so-so in the preseason, but with trying to get him into the fire right away, Philbin went with him over Matt Moore and David Garrard as the starter.

Not many people feel Miami will be that competitive in 2012, and with good reason. They have a weak WR group, the defense has flaws, and Tannehill looks at times like a fish out of water. It all adds up to a long year coming for Miami.

Why did the Dolphins put all their eggs in one basket with Tannehill. I hope he can develop into the player they expect. Think of all the linemen offensive and defensive we could have picked up for that first round pick. We already had two decent quarterbacks, and probably could have found another on the trade wire for a lot less. The Dolphins in recent years have done this and it is the front offices job to think through the needs. I am only an armchair owner/GM but if your front line cant make holes for the running back or hold the defense back so your quarterback can step back three steps and throw then there are problems with either the blocking scheme or with the personnel. Exit Tony Sparano…I liked Tony except he wouldn’t get off his horse. His scheme was so predicatble. I cant wait to play the Jets. Although, he is probably saying the same thing about playing the Dolphins. The Dolphins remind me a lot of this country. Lots of great years…lots of mismanagement and overdone salaries and neglect have sunk them both to places we never thought we would be.
