Maybe QB Chad Pennington’s stay in South Florida won’t be so short after all. Initially viewed as a quick fix to a hole unfilled since Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino’s retirement, Pennington is on the verge of leading Miami into the playoffs for the first time since 2001. First, he must defeat the New York Jets, the team that fired him four months ago in favor of Brett Favre.
If it sounds like a storybook way to complete Pennington’s rebirth and Miami’s turnaround, that’s probably because it would be. But this game is also about Pennington, his new team and just how long this marriage might last. ”We consider ourselves Miami Dolphins now,” said Denise Pennington, the quarterback’s mother. “F-I-N-S, Fins, Fins, Fins! We don’t even say the other word in our house.”
