Dolphins Go QB in Round One, Snag Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa with 5th Pick

After trying several times to move up to #1 to likely take Joe Burrow as their QB of the future, the Dolphins instead shifted to Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa with the 5th overall pick in Thursday’s Draft.
ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe gave his take on why the Fins picked Tua five overall:

The Dolphins haven’t had a Pro Bowl quarterback in 24 years (Dan Marino), and they desperately need Tagovailoa to lead their rebuild. With Burrow off the board at No. 1, the Dolphins took a swing at the most efficient quarterback in college football history in Tagovailoa. He has the accuracy, leadership qualities, anticipation and “it factor” — all things that Dolphins general manager Chris Grier and coach Brian Flores prioritized in their quarterback search. Tagovailoa has the charisma and talent to lead the Dolphins back to relevance in the AFC.

The ESPN 2020 NFL Draft crew describes how the Miami Dolphins have been struggling at the quarterback position since the days of Dan Marino, then they throw it over to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who reveals the Dolphins have taken former Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick.
