According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have expressed interest in free agent defensive tackle Jay Ratliff. When healthy, Ratliff has been one of the league’s best interior defensive lineman and his résumé includes four Pro Bowl selections and one All-Pro honor.
The 2013 Dolphins are set at defensive tackle. In fact, they have a surplus of talent at the position. Randy Starks, Paul Soliai and Jared Odrick have all had stellar seasons and have each graded out near the top of Pro Football Focus’ defensive tackle rankings thus far.
But Starks and Soliai are both playing in the final year of their contracts. There is a sense of doubt that the Dolphins will be able to resign both in the offseason.
Ratliff, who has recently been cleared to resume football activities after dealing with hamstring and abdominal injuries as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, could potentially fill the void of either Starks or Soliai, or could help Jared Odrick replace both in 2014.
