Linebacker Austin Spitler Rejoins Dolphins

Austin Spitler rejoins the Dolphins.

It was reported on Tuesday that the Dolphins had waived fullback Tyler Clutts and safety Kelcie McCray. However, it wasn’t made known which two players would be replacing them on the 53-man roster.

This morning we have an answer. Well, at least for one of the two spots.

Linebacker Austin Spitler, who has played three seasons for the Dolphins and was on the roster during this year’s training camp, has been resigned to the defense. Spitler never started a game in Miami, but was solid on special teams and tallied 23 combined tackles in three years with the team.

The Dolphins’ starting linebackers have been porous through four games, but depth along the unit was also a major concern. Expect one more addition to be announced this morning or during this afternoon’s practice.
