The Miami Dolphins made a roster move this morning, moving tight end Dustin Keller, who is out for the season with a blown out right knee, to the reserve/injured list.
Keller was only under contract for one season in Miami, so it will interesting to see if the Dolphins have any interest in potentially bringing him back next offseason. But with how serious the injury was, there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready to play in 2014.
Putting Keller on IR opened up a spot on the 90-man roster. Given that opening, the Dolphins announced the signing of linebacker Nathan Williams.
Williams was an outside linebacker for the Ohio State Buckeyes last year, but went undrafted in April. Miami is lacking depth at linebacker after starters Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler and Koa Misi, but Williams will still have a difficult task attempting to make the team.
The 75-man roster cut-down deadline is next Tuesday and final cuts will be made a week from Saturday. Williams is well behind the other linebackers on the Dolphins’ roster and needs to immediately impress the coaches in limited reps to legitimately have a shot at surviving both waves of cuts.
