’72 Dolphins to Finally Be Honored with White House Visit

The 1972 Miami Dolphins — the only undefeated team in NFL history — are scheduled to visit President Barack Obama at the White House next Tuesday afternoon.

Don Shula’s Dolphins didn’t take an official White House visit for either of the Super Bowl wins in the early 70’s because such visits had yet to become a post-title ritual. But 41 years later, the greatest team in NFL history will be honored at the Capitol.

Of course, many Dolphins fans — particularly those who weren’t alive in ’72 or old enough to remember — might be getting tired of hearing about the undefeated team when the current Dolphins haven’t had much success in recent years. But it’s still a team and a season that should serve as a source of great pride for South Florida.

And there’s no denying that the ’72 Dolphins are worthy of this honor. A long-overdue honor for the NFL’s — perhaps even pro sports’ — most legendary team.
