Dolphins Fill Roster, Sign Receiver

Stafford at Toldedo

The Miami Dolphins were one player short of the 90-man training camp roster limit. Some speculated that they could have been saving that spot for free-agent fullback Vonta Leach.

But the team announced the signing of 6’2″, 204-pound wide receiver Kenny Stafford this evening.

Does that mean the Dolphins are moving on from a potential Leach signing? No, not necessarily. But it does it mean they’d have to cut someone to make room for him.

As for the new addition, Kenny Stafford, a former Toledo Rocket, spent time with the Atlanta Falcons during last year’sĀ preseasonĀ and has played for the AFL and CFL this summer. He’s also former NFL star receiver Chris Carter’s nephew.

The Dolphins had been down a player at receiver ever since Joe Hastings announced his retirement earlier this month due to knee trouble. Stafford will enter camp as a long shot to make the team, but he’ll add competition as a camp body.

The Dolphins report to training camp on Saturday and will conduct the first practice of the 2013 season on Sunday morning.
