Open Forum: Submit your grade for the Dolphins’ draft

The next Jason Taylor? The Dolphins can only hope

After months of speculation and three days of bedlam, the 2013 NFL Draft is officially in the books. There were a plethora of directions the Dolphins could have went in this draft, but chose to potentially put the finishing touches on what could be a top five defense.

Miami’s draft class has received some mixed reviews from national pundits.

Radio/television personalities Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless were extremely critical of Jeff Ireland’s decision to trade up in the first round for Dion Jordan.

But draft grades are coming in and the Dolphins seem to be grading out quite well. Yahoo Sports’ Jason Cole, for example, gives the Dolphins his only A in the entire AFC.

Personally, I don’t like to touch on draft grades. After all, looking back on these grades a year or two from now will be futile. How each of these rookies perform on the field will ultimately prove how successful or not this draft was for Jeff Ireland.

Having said that, I still want to hear from our readership here at Dolphins Gab. Tell me what grade you would give the Dolphins’ 2013 draft class. If you’re not in to the post-draft grading thing either, simply tell me which picks you liked or which selections you didn’t care for.

Round 1, pick 3: Dion Jordan, Defensive End, Oregon
Round 2, pick 54: Jamar Taylor, Cornerback, Boise State
Round 3, pick 77: Dallas Thomas, Guard/Tackle, Tennessee
Round 3, pick 93: Will Davis, Cornerback, Utah State
Round 4, pick 104: Jelani Jenkins, Outside Linebacker, Florida
Round 4, pick 106: Dion Sims, Tight End, Michigan State
Round 5, pick 164: Mike Gillislee, Running Back, Florida
Round 5, pick 166: Caleb Sturgis, Kicker, Florida
Round 7, pick 250: Don Jones, Defensive Back, Arkansas State

I’ll give it a C. I think the defense will be good but why the hell didn’t Ireland draft a LT or a WR after he traded Bess. He’s made a defense that was already solid better but an offense that sucked even worse smh

    • Cody Strahm says:

Hard to argue offense is worse with additions of Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller. Any improvement from Ryan Tannehill in his second season with better weapons will substantially improve offense as well.

I love this draft. I’ll give it an A. Dion Jordan one of the top corners in the draft in round two. How sick is this defense going to be?

  3. brent says:

The fact that they robbed the Raiders and traded up for the best defensive player in the draft is good enough for an A from me!

The Dolphins certainly got a steal. Partially, why I don’t understand Jordan criticism. Didn’t give up a whole lot to move up and snagged a the top defensive player in the draft. Funny how Jordan wasn’t considered a risky pick until the Dolphins traded up to get him.

I’ll give it a B+. Loved the Jordan and Taylor picks. Would have liked to see a receiver instead of a kicker in the 5th though. Swope would have been a nice addition.
