Dolphins select Tennessee OG Dallas Thomas 77th overall

Dallas Thomas

The Dolphins have selected Tennessee OT/OG Dallas Thomas with their first pick in the third round. Thomas is an athletic lineman that excels at pulling and getting to the second level of the defense.

He is a versatile player that spent time at tackle and guard at Tennessee, so it’s uncertain what the Dolphins’ plans for him are.

It’s highly unlikely Thomas is Miami’s solution to their void at left tackle as he projects to compete at either guard or right tackle. My gut tells me guard, though. Check out his scouting report below:

Update: Dolphins have traded their second third-round pick at 82nd overall for two Saints’ fourth-round picks (106th and 109th overall).

Dallas Thomas, OT/OG, Tennessee

Height: 6-5
Weight: 300

Strengths: Versatile. Starting potential at tackle and guard. Very agile with ideal bend and flexibility. Excels at pulling. Is able to get to the second level quickly. Comes off the snap quickly.

Weaknesses: Foot quickness is a bit subpar. Lower body strength needs to improve. Gives up too much ground against bigger defensive lineman. Overextends at times, lunging to make block.
