Week 17 (Dec. 29): New York Jets 1 pm

The road back to the playoffs won’t be easy for a franchise that has only been to the postseason once in the past 11 years. The schedule-makers sure didn’t do the Dolphins any favors.

The first five games of the season before the bye week will be particularly daunting. Starting on the road for three out of the first four contests with the first two home games coming against the Super Bowl caliber Falcons and the Super Bowl champion Ravens will be challenging for a new-look roster that may need time to gel.

The Dolphins will play more than half of their remaining games within the AFC East as the schedule softens some beginning in Week 7. But three trips to cold weather climates in December against the Jets, Steelers, and Bills could spell trouble.

Nobody ever said it would be easy, though. If the Dolphins fail to make the playoffs this year it won’t be because of the schedule. If they have improved this offseason as much as we all hope, they’ll win more games in 2013.
