DT Randy Starks the AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Wide receiver REGGIE WAYNE of the Indianapolis Colts, defensive tackle RANDY STARKS of the Miami Dolphins and kicker SHAUN SUISHAM of the Pittsburgh Steelers are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the fifth week of the 2012 season (October 4, 7-8), the NFL announced today.

DEFENSE: DT RANDY STARKS, MIAMI DOLPHINS

  • Starks recorded three tackles, a half sack, an interception and two passes defensed in the Dolphins’ 17-13 win at Cincinnati.
  • ·         In the third quarter, Starks intercepted a pass intended for Bengals wide receiver ANDREW HAWKINS. On the ensuing drive, Dolphins running back REGGIE BUSH scored on a 13-yard TD run for a 14-6 advantage.
  • Starks played a key role for a Dolphins defense that limited the Bengals to 298 yards of offense (218 passing; 80 rushing).
  • Helped hold Cincinnati to a 14 percent (two of 14) conversion rate on third-downs.
