Former Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown Bolts for the Eagles

Former Dolphins first-round pick RB Ronnie Brown won’t be back with the Fins in 2011, as today he agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that has signed just about every big name player so far in free agency.

“Ronnie is an all-around running back with a versatile skill set,” said Eagles GM Howie Roseman in a statement. “He can run the ball, catch it, and does very well in pass protection. He’ll add some good size to our backfield and he’s a good character guy. We think he’ll be a tremendous compliment to LeSean (McCoy) and the other young backs on this team that we really like. You can never have enough good running backs in this league and we are happy to have Ronnie join us.”

Brown was drafted by Miami in 2005 with the 2nd overall pick. The biggest knock on him in his time in Miami was his susceptibility to injury; he’s missed 16 games since 2007. The one-time Pro Bowler only has one 1,000-yard rushing season.

It was apparent that the Dolphins were not going to bring him back with a serious offer after the team traded for former Saints RB Reggie Bush last week.
