McDaniel Resigns With Miami Plus Other Notes

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Miami Dolphins and defensive lineman Tony McDaniel have agreed to a contract, although the details are not yet available. (UPDATE: The de is reportedly worth $6 million over two years. McDaniel turned down other offers to stay in Miami.)

McDaniel filled in nicely last year for the injured rookie Jared Odrick. Last year McDaniel registered 36 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 4 pass deflections. McDaniel, who is 6’7 is one of the Fins most reliable lineman after his production last year.

The Miami Herald is also reporting that the Dolphins have offered a third round pick for Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton. The Fins are believed to have increased their offer for Orton.

With all of the other teams that are in need of a quarterback; Seattle, Minnesota, and Tennessee all have acquired quarterbacks through trade or free agency. So that simply leaves the Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals in need of a Qb, and Arizona is in hot pursuit of Philadelphia’s Kevin Kolb.

With the market decreasing for Orton because of lack of need for a Qb, the Dolphins should be able to snag their man now in a matter of days. The only believed snag is Ortons contract, and Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel has reported that the Dolphins are in contract talks with Orton’s agent as we speak.

So in the next couple of hours or so we should know whether or not the Dolphins got their man or not.
