George: Lockout Will Help Keep Henne as Dolphins Starter

Dave George in the Palm Beach Post comments today that he feels that with the lockout taking place, there’s no real other direction for the Dolphins to go in 2011 than with Chad Henne at the QB spot.

Because all the mini-camps and off-season study sessions have been wiped out, the rookies are even rookier. The newbie veterans added to the roster are even newbier. Incoming offensive coordinators, such as Miami’s Brian Daboll, are even harder pressed to install their systems in a matter of weeks rather than months.

Put it all together and it makes more sense why Dolphins owner Stephen Ross stayed with Tony Sparano as head coach for 2011. Jim Harbaugh, the flashy coach-of-the-moment who briefly had Ross’ eye, will really be up against it in San Francisco trying to refashion the 49ers in whatever portion of August is allotted to him. Same goes for any new head coach.

With Sparano in his fourth year as Miami coach and Henne entering his third as Miami starter, at least there’s some continuity there. That’s going to be more valuable than ever in this lockout season. The teams with the best idea of exactly who they are will find the greatest efficiency while tumbling toward the regular season opener, whether it comes in September or beyond.
