Former Fins WR Newson Wins a Suit Against the Team

Former WR Kendall Newson has won benefits in a suit against the Dolphins. Courthouse News Service reports a judge in Pittsburgh ruled the NFL team cannot dispute the worker’s comp claim filed by Newson who suffered a career-ending knee injury during a preseason game against the Steelers at Hinez Field.

The Dolphins claimed Newson could only seek benefits in Florida under a collective bargaining agreement between the NFL Management Council and the NFL Players Association. … Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Pupo Lenihan said Newson’s case was already consolidated with the league’s management council claims against retired Dolphins players who had filed for benefits in California. As such, Lenihan said it was up to an arbitrator to resolve contractual claims.
