DeMaurice Smith says NFLPA Won’t Let Fans Down

After agreeing to a one week extension of negotiatons with the owners, NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith made a brief statement to the media this afternoon. Here are some of the highlights:

“We want to say a special thanks to all our fans for being extremely patient, we dig our fans. Our players want to play football. It’s been an honor and a privilege to work with our executive committee and our player reps to try to negotiate toward a fair deal. It’s been something we’ve tried to do and worked hard to do over the past two years. There’s a commitment from both sides to engage in another round of negotiations at the request of the mediation service. We look forward to a deal coming out of that. What we have always had is our core is the football our players love to play and that our fans love to watch it. There’s never going to be a day where we’re not going to have those two first and foremost in our minds. We won’t have any comment about the ongoing discussions. We’re not going to let you down. I’m going to go coach my daughter’s basketball team tomorrrow. Hopefully, you are big fans of that and big fans of our game.”
