Dolphins Defensive End McDaniel Suspended For Pats Game

The NFL has made a ruling on suspending Miami Dolphins versatile defensive lineman Tony McDaniel one game, which will end up being served next Monday night against the New England Patriots, on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

McDaniel has been sentenced to the one game suspension because of  a domestic violence charge he pleaded guilty to, involving his girlfriend at the time. As far as the NFL is concerned, McDaniel has violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

This suspension comes as a surprise to me because of how long the league waited in order to make the suspension. The crime occurred back in early February!

If the suspension would have come during last season I would not have been as worried or concerned as I am now, simply because McDaniel was a backup, and was not a regular part of the player rotation. But now, in the absence of starter Jared Odrick, McDaniel has been lining up on a good percentage of the snaps, and has been performing admirably. McDaniel’s key strength so far this year is batting down balls at the line of scrimmage, but with his 6’7 frame, that should come as no surprise.

But aggravates me even more is the fact that a certain New York Jets player was not suspended for multiple offenses by the league over his career.

Jets star wide receiver Braylon Edwards has had a history of getting into trouble over the course of his career. Not only was he charged for a DWI on Tuesday last week, but he was also charged with a misdemeanor assault charge, coming from a punch he threw at a party promoter last year. Edwards also has a history of  collecting speeding tickets as well, going as far as driving 120 MPH in a 65 mile per hour zone. Talk about excessive.

So what I do not understand is that Edwards was only suspended one quarter by the team, when he has a history or causing trouble, and McDaniel, who has had  a ckean slate his whole career, gets suspended for a key game?! As the Monday Night Crew would say on ESPN, C’Mon Man!
