While trades cannot be made until after the new football year starts, on March 5th, according to ESPN Insider, the Dolphins are preparing to offer a 3rd rounder to the Arizona Cardinals for receiver Anquan Boldin.
The Cardinals are also reportedly interested in Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter.
Porter is on his way out, but there is a timeline that involves Porter, that may complicate things a little bit.
On March 4th, Porter is due his roster bonus, worth $1 million. But trades cannot be made until March 5th. So what is there to do with Porter in that time?
Do the Dolphins set up this trade anyway, and work out a deal that pits the Cardinals paying Porter’s bonus?
We know that the Dolphins are interested in upgrading their receiving corps. Bill Parcells even said it himself.
Only giving up a 3rd round pick for Boldin would be a great bargin, and would set up a huge draft day for the Dolphins.
There would no longer be any need to go after a wide receiver in the first three rounds. There would be no need to target Dez Bryant in the first round instead of going after a linebacker.
Eliminating the need for a true #1 receiver would allow the Dolphins to go after some of their other needs such as a linebacker, or a nose tackle.
Trading for Boldin would automatically make the Dolphins a better team, and would rid them of problem child Joey Porter.
If the Dolphins are already looking into the trade possibilities, then one would think that they plan on getting this trade done.
According to the Sun-Sentinels Barry Jackson, two sources have talked to the Dolphins, and they have no intentions of making a move for Brandon Marshall, the Denver Broncos receiver. This would make Boldin the only receiver who’s name is not Dez Bryant that the Dolphins could acquire this off-season.
Let’s wait and see what happens on this, the Dolphins may just surprise us all, and make this deal happen.
