Nolan, Dolphins Close To Agreement: What Is To Come

Per John Clayton of ESPN, former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and the Dolphins are closing in on an agreement that would fill the open vacancy at the defensive coordinator position.

Nolan was let go, upon a “mutual agreement by both Denver coach Josh McDaniels, and myself”, said Nolan.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins have wasted no time in starting up the interviews with Nolan.

Thinking back over Nolan’s defenses the past decade, the notable one was when he was with the Baltimore Ravens. He also was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, and the defensive coordinator for the Broncos.

While the 49ers defense was not as great as some of the others, like the Ravens, who you could argue boasted the best defensive unit of the decade, Nolan is a quality guy, and is hands down the top guy on the list of available candidates.

Nolan does run the 3-4, and everywhere he has been, he has  had a solid, if not great front seven. Not by coincidence, this is where the Dolphins are lacking as of now, and if Nolan is to indeed get the job for the DC, following a good showing in the draft this year, the Dolphins should show some immense improvement in that area.

Nothing bad can come out of this move. Nolan is a relatively younger guy, and barring any head coaching interviews, should be with us for the long haul. I consider Nolan one of the elite defensive minds in the game today. Just look what he did with a young Ravens defense earlier last decade, and look what he has transformed Elvis Dumervil into, a complete sack machine.

This situation could not be any better for Cameron Wake, Philip Merling, and Kendall Langford.
