Dolphins’ Keys To Victory Vs. Falcons (Week 1)

Week one is just 2 days away, and rest assured that the Miami Dolphins are putting the final touches on their game plan when they visit Atlanta to take on the Falcons. What will their game plan look like come Sunday? That’s for discussion amongst yourselves, but I think I have an idea of what the Dolphins will need to do to get that coveted 1-0 mark this Sunday afternoon:

Pass-rush often. This matchup is kind of like the Irresistible Force (Miami Dolphins’ pass-rush) vs. the Immoveable object. there’s no doubt that the Dolphins’ offensive line coaches are mindful of the fact that the Falcons allowed pass rushers to sack quarterback Matt Ryan only 17 times. Armed with that knowledgte, now is the best time to test the Falcons’ O-line with Joey Porter and Co.

Monopolize the game clock. Pretty obvious stuff here, but those of you who witnessed some of the Dolphins’ games last season know that the team had issues in reference to keeping their offense on the field for extended periods of time. Having said that, I suggest that head coach Tony Sparano utilize the two-headed best that is the running duo of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Passing opportunities will exist, but ball control is paramount if the Dolphins expect to win this Sunday.

Injuries. If the Falcons’ John Abraham is unable to play this weekend, it will make the Dolphins’ O-line’s job that much easier in protecting quarterback Chad Pennington, especially during passing situations. So by and large, the O-line and its effectiveness will dictate the team’s frotunes this Sunday.
