Coming Home: LB Taylor Returns to Miami w/ One-Year Deal

Jason Taylor is coming home.

The 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has rejoined the Dolphins. His agent, Gary Wichard, says the 34-year-old signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract Wednesday. It’s a homecoming for Taylor, who played his first 11 seasons with Miami before being traded to the Redskins. He was released by Washington last winter after one injury-plagued season.

Taylor could give Miami’s pass rush a much-needed boost at outside linebacker opposite Joey Porter, who led the AFC with 17.5 sacks last year. The thought was that the Patriots would eventually land Taylor, as they did court him for awhile, but he wanted to return to Miami so he could be close to his family during the season.

Last season with the Skins, Taylor played in 13 games with 29 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble. In his Defensive MVP season of 2006, he had 62 tackles, 13.5 sacks and two interceptions with two touchdowns. He was the teams third round draft pick out of Akron in 1997.
