Two Possible Dolphins Drafts

butler
I think this is a great year to have two second round picks, especially as we might get the player we received our extra one for back after only one year.

The reason is that there aren’t that many super-stars in the draft, but there are lots more than 32 players that are considered to have first round potential. I think a lot of second round picks are going to start this year.

This means the Phins can afford to pick according to primary need in the first round and be pretty confident that quality players will still be available for our other needs, of which there are plenty, in the second.

Alternatively we could use one of our second round picks as collateral to move up in the first if one of the few true stars happens to slip into the second half. According to trade value charts I’ve seen, our 25th and 56th picks combined are equivalent in value to the 15th pick (Texans) overall.

So here are two possible set of picks, up to and including the 4th, that Miami might make. The first attempts to be realistic, while the second is my best case scenario.

Our order of priority should be: CB, LB, WR, NT, OG. As I’ve written before, I don’t think we should take a WR in the 1st and Maualuga is one of the few potential superstars we might have a chance of getting our hands on.

Phins first four rounds (realistic)

1. Darius Butler (CB)

2. Clint Sintim (OLB)

2. Brian Robiskie (WR)

3. Ron Brace (NT)

4. Herman Johnson (OG)

Phins first four rounds (dream)

1. (after trading picks with Houston) Rey Maulaluga (ILB)

2. Darius Butler

3. Brian Robiskie

4. Fili Moala (NT)
