New Dolphins LB Wake Could be a Playmaker in 2009

Cameron Wake
Profootballweekly.com says that you can bet that new Fins LB Cameron Wake will have an impact on the team in 2009:

It’s his potential that’s so intoxicating, and his anonymity that’s so intriguing. He’s expected to bring immediate pass-rushing pressure to a Dolphins defense in need of an additional edge force to Joey Porter, yet most football fans probably have never heard of him. Indeed, there may not be a more curious player study this offseason than OLB Cameron Wake. After two years of dominating the Canadian Football League — racking up 39 sacks en route to winning consecutive CFL Defensive Player of the Year honors as a member of the British Columbia Lions — the 6-2, 240-pound Penn State product looks just as much the part as Porter does.

Sources around the league have told us that Wake’s no experimental flier. Numerous NFL clubs were itching to sign him, with the prevailing wisdom being that there hasn’t been a CFL transplant with this much NFL promise in years. He’s likely in need of some fine-tuning before being fully unleashed, but the Miami coaches have serious hopes that he has the raw ability to be a force sooner rather than later. Oh, and don’t bother trying to look up his college highlights. “Cameron Wake” won’t be found in any Penn State media guide, as he changed his name from “Derek” upon his trek north.
