Thursday marked the first day that teams could place a franchise tag on key players who are due to become unrestricted free agents so that they could maintain control over them for at least another year. Of the Dolphins unrestricted free agents, only tackle Vernon Carey, linebacker Channing Crowder or safety Yeremiah Bell have a legitimate chance of receiving the franchise tag.
