Chad – Pennington That Is – the Starter for Week One for Miami

To the surprise of no one, the Fins will open up the season with newly signed Chad Pennington as their starting QB.  “I think the guy will do a great job of managing our team,” coach Tony Sparano said. “And the team has responded really well to him, and that’s where we are going.”  It doesn’t hurt that Pennington will get a shot at revenge in week one when the Dolphins host the New York Jets – the team that released him when they signed Brett Favre about three weeks ago.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to lead this team,” Pennington said. “We’ve worked extremely hard over the last two weeks, and I’m proud to be a Miami Dolphin.”  Pennington has looked solid in preseason for the Dolphins, going 16-for-21 for 149 yards and one TD as the Dolphins have won their past two preseason games.  “We’re a young team,” Sparano said. “He brings management skills to the table. He can manage a game really well. He’s a little bit calmer in there. He’s seen more situations.”

It appears for now that rookie Chad Henne will be the backup for Pennington, as he’s gotten the most amount of playing time in the preseason.  John Beck and Josh McCown will likely still fight it out for the final QB spot on the roster.
