Sparano Talks Heating Up?

Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Tony Sparano, who is an early front-runner to replace Miami Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron, is also scheduled to interview for the head coaching vacancy in Atlanta.

Now that the Dallas Cowboys have been officially eliminated from the playoffs, their current assistant head coach Tony Sparano now has the time to officially make the rounds of the NFL teams that have head coaching vacancies.  The Miami Dolphins appear to be the frontrunner in the Sparano sweepstakes, while the Atlanta Falcons are in hot pursuit, as well.

Newly hired Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland met already with Sparano on January 5 and it is very likely that they will meet again – perhaps as early as this week.  But also keep in mind that the Dolphins have already interviewed 2 other candidates – and that isn’t counting Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who is not due into Miami until Monday.

I wouldn’t be surprised that after the initial and second round of talks commence, that Sparano is hired by the Dolphins.  Why, you ask?  Well, considering that Sparano and Parcells have a history in Dallas, Sparano isn’t exactly an unknown commodity.  And even though Ireland will “hire” the next head coach of the Dolphins, it will have the name “Parcells” written all over it.  Besides, most execs, regardless of team, like to being their own people in.  And Parcells is no different in that regard; they crave the familiarity and “comfort zone” which makes their jobs infinitely easier to do.
