Turnover Continues as Cameron Fired as Head Coach

Cameron

Not much of a shock here, as after a 1-15 nightmare, the Dolphins have canned Cam Cameron as their head coach, meaning that when the fish take the field for the first time in 2008, they will have their fifth coach in five seasons. The move was expected as new head man Bill Parcells started cleaning house on Monday with firing GM Randy Mueller and replacing him with Cowboys pal Jeff Ireland. It was reported late last night that Ireland would have some say on if Cameron would stay, and it became obvious with a new turnover that Cameron would be let go.

Cameron came to the Dolphins after being successful as the offensive coordinator with the San Diego Chargers. He made some people and fans scratch their heads when they traded for aging vet Trent Green to play QB, and then passed on QB Brady Quinn in the first round with the 9th pick in the draft, and instead went with injured wide out/kick returner Ted Ginn Jr. from Ohio State. Things went bad early on this season as they lost linebacker Zach Thomas early in the year, then lost stud running back Ronnie Brown with a season ending injury.

So who will take over for the Dolphins? Look for plenty of names that have been associated with Parcells to jump to the top of the page. One name that was rumored last week was Browns head coach Romeo Crennel, who when asked about the job said he has two years left on his deal for the Browns and said he would honor his deal. Maurice Carthon could be a name that gets mentioned, as well as a lot of past Parcells’ assistants from past teams.
