Lemon’s OT Pass to Camarillo Leads Fins to First Win of 07

Lorenzo Booker celebrates a first down

At last. In front of the perfect 1972 Dolphins, the current team finally got one on the board, as an overtime TD from Cleo Lemon to Greg Camarillo of 64-yards gave the Dolphins their first win of the season, as they beat the Ravens 22-16 at home. The win for the Fins means that the League will have to wait at least one more year for a team to go 0-16.

“It was like watching one of those plays in slow motion, and it’s the Super Bowl and the miraculous catch and all those things,” the Fins Vonnie Holliday said. “It was up there like that for us. Maybe not for everybody else, but for us it was up there with all those great catches — Dwight Clark and all those guys.” It seemed like the Dolphins were headed for 0-14 after the Ravens tied the game up late in OT, and then lined up for a 44-yard Matt Stover field goal that would have won it in overtime.

But with the 1972 perfect Dolphins looking on, Stover missed the field goal, giving new life to the Dolphins, life they would not let go away. On third down Camarillo took short pass and then broke over the middle and found himself sprinting towards the end zone for the touchdown. A touchdown that would send the Dolphins home winners and the Ravens embarassed. “Eight losses in a row — I think everything stinks at this point, whether it’s the Dolphins or whether we were playing Missouri,” Ravens center Mike Flynn said.

The Ravens may have gotten a look at the future for the second straight week at QB. Troy Smith came in for a hurt Kyle Boller (concussion), and drove the team for a game-tying field goal late in regulation. He then seemed to have the team on the verge of a win before Stover missed the 44 yarder that would have won the game and snapped the Ravens now eight-game losing streak.

Cleo Lemon was the offensive star for the Dolphins, going 23-for-39 for 315 yards. Next week the Dolphins will travel to New England to take on the Pats. With the Pats now at 14-0, the Fins are for sure to be at least the 24 or more point underdog that the Jets were this past Sunday.
