Green Says He’ll Be Back

Green Sunday in Houston

There is no question that Trent Green in a fighter, and he intends to prove that by coming back to the Dolphins once he is cleared to do so. Green spoke from Kansas City yesterday to head coach Cam Cameron, and told his coach that he wants to continue his NFL career despite the “severe” concussion that he suffered in Sunday’s 22-19 loss to the Texans in Houston. The concussion was the second that Green suffered in 13 months.

“He’s really upbeat,” Cameron said of Green. “You could imagine, that’s what makes those guys who they are and what they are. They’re competitors, and they think a little differently than the rest of us sometimes. They can’t imagine not playing.” How long Green might be out is still very much up in the air. More tests are needed and there still is a chance that doctors may tell Green he should stay off the playing field – for good. If he has the shot though to return, it looks as if Green will try and do so.

As far as the future of the QB spot for the Dolphins? That appears to be Cleo Lemon’s job – for now. Rookie John Beck is waiting in the wings, and has admitted that he has learned a lot from Green this season, and expects the hard nosed vet to make a comeback at some point. ”We don’t want to speculate and say it’s the end,” Beck said. “Trent is a fighter. He feels like he was progressing each week, and he feels like he’s going to be able to come back and continue to progress with this team.”
