Dolphins Sign Free Agent Defensive End

The Miami Dolphins today signed defensive end Jorge Cordova. Cordova had been released by Jacksonville on Monday. To make room on the roster for Cordova, the Dolphins placed offensive tackle Joe Toledo (foot) on their Reserve/PUP list.

Cordova, 25, was a third-round draft choice of the Jaguars in 2004. After spending his first two NFL seasons (2004-05) on Jacksonville’s injured reserve list with a knee injury, he returned last year to play in 13 games, all in a reserve role. He recorded three tackles on defense and eight stops on special teams, where he also blocked a punt and recovered a blocked punt.

Jorge (pronounced HOR-hay) started all 42 games in which he appeared during his collegiate career at the University of Nevada. He finished with 29.5 sacks, including 11.5 as a senior in 2003 when he was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection as he posted 97 total tackles, 17 of which were for loss. Cordova attended Murrieta (Calif.) High School, where he lettered in football and basketball. He was born on September 25, 1981 in San Diego, Calif.
