Dolphins LB Porter Named Most Overrated on CBS Sportsline
Posted by Matt Loede on June 24th, 2007 filed in OpinionsThe Dolphins off season grab of former Steeler linebacker Joey Porter is not such a good
one according to CBS Sportsline’s Clark Judge. He has named Porter as the most overrated player in the leauge, stating the the outside linebacker has more bark than bite according to personnel people and coaches he spoke to about Porter. The 30-year-old Porter signed with Miami after the Steelers released him for five-years for $32 million.
Judge spoke of Porter having just seven sacks last year, and six of them came in three games. He had a quote in his article, stating “What’s even more alarming about that,” said an AFC personnel director, “is that he played a 3-4 outside linebacker. Those players are expected to get double-digits sacks at the least.”
So the jury is out on the type of player Porter will be in 2007. I can see him starting strong with the Dolphins, but just like last season, I think there are going to be games where he vanishes. Has Miami overpaid for a one-time “baddest man in the NFL?” That’s only going to prove itself in the season, but right now, this is a move they are likely going to regret.
