Dolphins Waive Dan Wilkinson

The Miami Dolphins Monday terminated the contract of veteran defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson, who failed to attend any of the team’s offseason minicamps, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. It is believed Wilkinson, 34, has retired after 13 seasons. The Dolphins tried trading him to Denver in March, but he never reported, voiding the sixth-round compensation.
Wilkinson, who nimbly avoided offseason workouts before joining the Dolphins in August, appeared in 10 games as Keith Traylor’s backup. He had 14 tackles, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. Wilkinson, the first overall draft pick in 1994, recently agreed to open seven AAMCO Transmissions shops in the Ohio area. The news release for the AAMCO announcement lists Wilkinson as an “ex-NFL defensive tackle.”
